St Lukes Church - Welcome The Refugee, Darien CT
Saint Luke's Parish invites the community to "Welcome the Refugee: A Night of Prayer, Poetry, Art and Song" on Tuesday, February 7 at 7:00 pm in the church, located at 1864 Post Road in Darien.
Two weeks ago, Saint Luke’s welcomed a Syrian refugee family to the United States. In a matter of days, the door of immigration to this country was slammed shut on refugees from Syria and six other Muslim-majority nations. In response, the parish is gathering the community to offer compassionate welcome and embrace to its sponsored refugee family as well as to the more than 800 refugee families welcomed to Connecticut in the past year.
And because Muslims have been singled out for exclusion, this event expresses strong affirmation of our Muslim brothers and sisters. Poems and songs—some in Arabic, sung by recent refugee Mohammed Almassri—celebrates our oneness.
All are welcome, regardless of faith, sexuality, gender, race, national origin or ability.
